When Katie and Eric told us they wanted to shoot their engagement session at Malibu Creek State Park we got so excited as it is one of our favorite places to shoot! They are just the sweetest and their love for each other is so evident when you see the way they look at each other.
Eric and I met back in 2011. He had just moved to Los Angeles three days prior to us meeting at a local Abbot Kinney watering hole. I was meeting a couple of co-workers for late night drinks, and Eric was celebrating his first weekend in LA. It just so happened that Eric had moved into the apartment one floor above my friend’s place. Since he was new to town, she invited him and his friends to meet us for drinks that night. I wish I could say the rest was history, but Eric and I joke that it wasn’t love at first sight…at least on my end! Eric asked me out that night – I politely declined. He was having a little too much fun and I wasn’t too sure about his goofy dance moves or his drink order. Little did I know, my friend had given him my number anyway. The next day Eric apologized for acting like a goofball and asked If I would meet him for drinks. To my surprise, he sounded much more suave that day, and it didn’t take me long to say “yes”. Over the years Eric has proved my first impression wrong over and over again. He is a phenomenal dancer and an even better wedding date. His drink of choice? Whiskey. Neat…. Now that’s what I’m talking about.
In 2015, Eric and I moved into our first place together. Me, being a wannabe decorator, had our apartment completely painted and decorated within two days of moving in. Eric graciously hung every picture, built every piece of furniture and listened intently to all my grand ideas. Little by little, our tiny piece of the city has become the place where we frequently have two-person dance parties, Pictionary duels and David Bowe sing-alongs. To put it simply, life with Eric is the most fun.
For my birthday last year, Eric took me to Thailand. I, for sure, thought he was going to propose. He didn’t. I was crushed. Then, a month later he gathered all of our friends to my parent’s house on the Central Coast and he popped the question. He decorated the rooftop with twinkly lights, three-hundred rose petals, tons of tea light candles and my favorite country song played in the background. It was such a whirlwind, I don’t exactly remember what he said, but I do know it’s a moment neither one of us will ever forget. Seconds after saying yes, we were rushed by all of our friends with congratulatory hugs and endless champagne. It was perfect.
Eric and I are getting married this coming April in an outdoor ceremony at a private estate in Simi Valley. In true fashion, I’ve spent hours on end sifting through Pinterest looking for just the right décor and Eric has made sure we have the best DJ, so he can show off those dance moves. Sticking with the outdoor theme, we knew Malibu’s rolling hills would be the perfect backdrop for our engagement shoot. Typically when we hike around Malibu, we’re in sneakers and gym clothes, but we had fun playing dress-up for the afternoon. We couldn’t be happier with the way the photos turned out. Stephanie did such a phenomenal job capturing what makes us…us. I can’t wait to have them printed and hung all around the house. I’ve already got the perfect spot for Eric to hang them.
